A Heart-Healthy Community, June 2026

On May 9, the MCA hosted a free, hands-only CPR and AED training for the community at Mantua Elementary school, provided by the Gwyneth’s Gift Foundation. We had 24 neighbors (adults and children) who were able to participate in this training and were lucky enough to have Joel Griffin as our trainer.

Gwyneth’s Gift Foundation was founded by Joel and Jennifer Griffin, who lost their twelve year old daughter, Gwyenth, to sudden cardiac arrest during her middle school field day in 2012. At that time, shockingly, teachers were not required to know basic CPR. However, because of the Griffin’s determination and actions, Gwyneth’s Law was passed in Virginia, requiring all public school teachers and high school students to become proficient in hands-only CPR.
