Boundary Review Avoids Woodson Pyramid
November 4, 2025
The latest scenario for Comprehensive Boundary Review, the program to adjust school maps across Fairfax
County, does not touch any part of the Mantua, Frost, and Woodson borders, Superintendent Dr. Michelle
Reid reported this month. This scenario (number 4, for those counting at home) focuses primarily on eliminat-
ing “split feeders,” where students graduate to different middle and high schools, and alleviating capacity at
the most overcrowded schools.
In the Woodson High School pyramid, only Olde Creek Elementary will have its borders changed to eliminate
a portion of the map that went to a different high school. All other schools will have their maps remain static
for at least the next five years.
Across the county, only about 4,000 students will see their school assignments change in scenario 4, or about
2.2% of the student population of FCPS. Scenario 3, which had elicited opposition from many parents, had
moved roughly double the number of students.
Dr. Reid confirmed that “no further macro changes” were expected as part of this round of comprehensive
boundary review.
The MCA, alongside the Mantua PTA and Winterset Civic Association, had met with the Superintendent and
school board members last year to advocate leaving Mantua Elementary’s boundaries as they are. This latest
scenario confirms that those efforts were successful.
