Traffic
As potholes appear in the spring thaw, send addresses to transportation@mantua.org to let us know where they
are, and we’ll bring them to VDOT’s attention.
You also can report potholes yourselves at https://my.vdot.virginia.gov/. VDOT asks for measurements and
photos when possible and an address to help them locate the problem.
For major issues, such as the recently corrected depressions on Prince William, I work with the Supervisor’s
office to expedite resolution.
Infrastructure — Dominion Energy Outages
We can’t prevent future power outages, but we might be able to help reduce the likelihood of some outages.
To do so, we need the community’s help. You can help by contacting Dominion’s customer service (866-
366-4357) whenever you have an electric outage so that Dominion has a record of problem streets.
Dominion’s Strategic Underground Program moves electric wires underground if they qualify, without charge
to customers who live on the affected streets. Dominion sets a high bar for this program. The key qualifiers are
(1) the lines must be “single phase” (just for that street) and (2) Dominion must determine that the streets have
had at least nine serious outages, i.e., for hours, not minutes, which are tree-related or caused by vehicle
accidents, animal-related outages, lightning / ice / wind / weather-related outages, or unknown causes.
According to Dominion, streets or sections of streets which currently qualify and could potentially be
evaluated for the program are as follows:
• Denise Lane and the north part of Chantal Lane and Petros Court
• Part of Tovito Drive
• A small section of Kirkwood Drive and Courtley Court
• A single section of Laurel Leaf Lane between Southwick Street and Colesbury Place.
Residents of those streets should contact me at transportation@mantua.org if they are interested in this
program.
Streets experiencing multiple outages that have main lines include (1) Barkley between Hamilton and Glenbrook
and (2) Hamilton between Prince William and Eakin Park. Dominion’s Planning and Reliability
Division addresses reliability issues on the main lines. At this time, those streets are not on the priority list and
there is at least a two-year wait to get Dominion’s attention for undergrounding overhead lines. Again, please
contact me at transportation@mantua.org if you live on these streets and want to get Dominion to consider
your street for undergrounding wires.
There are solutions short of undergrounding that Dominion could take if it hears from concerned residents.
The primary solutions are tree trimming over electric lines and other strengthening of the electric infrastructure.
You can help by calling Dominion’s customer service number (866-366-4357) whenever you have
an electric outage so that Dominion has a record of problem streets.
